What people had to say about Dingle Film Festival 2008.
Thank you for being such a generous and thoughtful host to myself and Anna. We had a wonderful time in dingle. We were only sorry about one thing. That we had to leave. !!! The festival was heartfelt and unpretentious. And I met some lovely people. Gabriel Byrne
Thank you for your lovely email, and for the imagination and hard work that created such a wonderful festival. I looked back through all of our emails and it really was a journey. Even so, we didn't know what it would be like, and our whole family had a fantastic experience. It was such a thrill to see the theatre full of people for our screenings, to have that sense of the audience wanting to gather to watch the films together. Cecilia Peck
I miss the town and the folks, and all our relations. But, we will return for more good times soon. It was as splendid a trip as I have ever made. Anthony Peck
" The people of Dingle, we feel with you and of you, we feel home here, we see ourselves in you and we hope you feel the same and we love you very much and we look forward to our next visit soon". Anthony Peck
"We have loved every second of the Dingle Film Festival". Cecilia Peck
It was a pleasure to be able to help in any way, I am 110% behind this wonderful Festival & would love to see it grow & grow each year. Grainne Kavanagh, Emlagh House
I don't know how you'll follow it, because whatever happened this year was special. Francis O Sullivan Phoenix Cinema
Congrats to Tom and yourself, the festival was really enjoyable. Onwards and upwards. Stella Doyle, Dingle
One last cyber-hurrah from here to congratulate you and your DFF colIeagues on what by all accounts seems to have been an unqualified success. I have been hearing nothing but raves of satisfaction from those in the know - Veronique, Cecilia, Anthony and even the grandchildren. Needless to say - but I will - I am not in the least bit surprised. Again, my compliments to Chef Maurice! Monroe Freidman, LA
I wanted to write and thank you for inviting me to the Dingle Film Festival. I had such a wonderful time. Everyone was so great and generous, and the audiences were receptive to the films.
I love Dingle and hope to be asked back again. I'm hooked! Barbara Kopple
Thinking back with pleasure on our sojourn with you in Dingle. Garrett Brown
I just wanted to thank you and your team of volunteers for looking after us all so well - we had a fantastic time.
The Festival was a triumph - a varied and interesting programme of films and talks and everything seemed to go like clockwork (Dingle time clockwork sometimes)! And the cottage you put us up in was beautiful.
Please pass on my special thanks to Mike - he went above and beyond the call of duty yesterday and took us on an amazing trip around the peninsula and on to Tralee to take us to Castle Street to experience the madness there for ourselves!
We made the flight with minutes to spare but it was all worth it.
I will remember the trip forever and will definitely spread the word on the Dingle Film Festival to everyone I meet.
Say hello to Mike, Tom, Nigel, Sheila, Annette, Mags and anyone else I've missed and tell them the London Arena crowd loved the whole experience and will hopefully be back next year. Andrew Wright BBC
Comments by Lori Kearney about the 2nd Dingle Film Festival:
This was the greatest festival this year! And I have been to some wonderful ones, including three years at Cannes. The intimacy and quality reminded me of years ago at Galway or Mill Valley in California. It's rare when a film festival is so open and intimate.
Thank you Maurice and Tom for all your hard work. You two have done such a great job/service/honor to Dingle. I hope you are basking in the warmth of the success of this year's festival. We are looking forward to many more to come!
Comments by Lori Kearney about the Dingle Film Festival Producer's Panel:
The producer's panel gave invaluable insight into the heart of socially conscious filmmaking. Ned Dowd is a delightful and entertaining speaker and always clearly answers direct questions. Ned's long history as producer of commercially driven films is educational and his future plans to work on children oriented films will be a real asset, as kids are our future.
Cecilia Peck is such a giving participant, always speaking from the heart and willing to share insider information. By choosing controversial and emotional topics, she is a real role model particularly for women in film. Cecilia's expertise and passion for her work is an absolute inspiration to filmmakers of any level of experience or skill. I think we'd all like to work with a producer like Cecilia!
Daniel Voll's deeply incisive discussion about the responsibility of a producer in documenting a looming killer had perhaps the most impact for me from the whole panel discussion. As a writer about social issues, this struck a primal chord and reminds us all as filmmakers, of the need to think a script through to the consequential effect on it's audience.
The panel was a great success and addressed real concerns of producing reflecting social and economic global circumstances and how that impacts funding and bringing projects to fruition. Thank you to the Irish Film Board for sponsoring such a valuable and enjoyable event!
