The Phoenix Cinema

In the age of multiplexes and buckets of popcorn The Phoenix Cinema stands like an oasis for the true cineaste. For those who see ‘going to the pictures’ as a cinematic rather than a culinary experience then this family run cinema is definitely for you. The Phoenix is one of the few remaining independent cinemas in Ireland today. While its weekly repertoire caters for the Hollywood blockbuster every Tuesday evening is reserved for its famous Cine Club. This is when the O Sullivan family can indulge their passion for cinema with screenings of Art House films from around the world. The remarkable thing is, the ‘house full’ sign goes up early every Tuesday as people travel from all over Kerry to enjoy a wonderful ‘night at the movies’ and experience the pleasure of what a real cinema should be.

Ionad an Bhlascaoid Mhoir, The Blasket Centre
This wonderful interpretative centre celebrates and tells the story of the Blasket Islanders, their native language, culture, tradition and  the remarkable literary achievements of its writers, most notably Peig Sayers. The centre hosts a fine 100-seater auditorium, which will be used for screenings during the festival.
