Márta 24th – Márta 25th 2017
Animation Dingle, in sponsorship with Disney Channels UK and Ireland, is delighted to present their search for the brightest Young Animator of the Year. Students from across Ireland are invited to submit animation shorts, using the theme ‘The Illusion of Life.’ The competition is open to students from Transition Year, 4th, 5th and 6th Year Students. The animated film is to be no longer than one minute. The closing date for entries is now 28th February 2017, so there is plenty of time for students to perfect their work for the competition.
This is an exciting chance for new and young talent to present their ideas to the largest gathering of animators in Ireland. The winning student will have their film shown at a Premiere Screening during the 5th Animation Dingle Festival event on March 24th-25th 2017.
The winning student will be:
• Presented with their award from a top Disney executive at the Festival.
• Offered a placement with JAM Media’s studios in either Dublin or Belfast.
• Receive an award designed by renowned Dingle jeweller, Brian de Staic.
JAM Media is one of the leading creators of multi-award winning animated content for children and preschoolers in Ireland and the UK. They have received many prestigious awards, including the BAFTA Award for ‘Best Children’s Drama’ in 2012, and the Irish Film and Television Award for ‘Best Animation’ in 2014. Their programmes are shown on RTÉ, CBBC, Nickelodeon and many other channels worldwide. This industry placement will be a fantastic opportunity for young animators looking for a career in Irish television.
Animation Dingle’s extended deadline also gives new students a further chance to produce their ideas from the ground up. Lauren Rush, the 2016 YAOTY winner, can confirm that you can still go far in this competition if you start late—“I didn’t think I would get very far in it because the deadline was quite close and the competition had been open for quite a while. I only had two weeks to make this, then after the two weeks I entered it and got an email back saying (I’m in).”
Nell Hensey, the winner in 2015, also remembers her thrilling experience—“Winning YAOTY has been phenomenal … I learned loads from JAM and all the guys. I’d never done 2D animation so it was great exposure to life in an animation studio.”
David Levine, Vice President, Programming, Production and Strategic Development, Disney Channels EMEA, and General Manager, Disney Channels UK & Ireland, awaits a great turnout for this memorable event—“Disney Channels have a heritage of hit animated series and we are proud to be supporting young Irish animators through this award … We look forward to seeing the entries from this rich pool of talent.”
Dingle Animation 2017 is also waiting in anticipation. Are you, or is a student you know, the 2017 YOUNG ANIMATOR OF THE YEAR?
