A documentary on the Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare. The film captures the very essence of the summer school by capturing the ethos on which it was started, a non competitive forum for students of all levels to learn Irish traditional music on traditional instrumentation. Not only is the film portraying the characteristic spirit of the Willie Clancy week as it has come to be known but through extensive interviews with people that knew Willie Clancy and played music with him we get a complete picture of how it all came about.
The legendary performances by musicians at the top of their game run right through the film including; Martin Hayes, Noel Hill, Johnny Connolly, Kilfenora Céilí Band, Edel Fox and many more.
Music flows through West Clare like a river and this film is a little light floating upon it that allows us to look into the magic beneath the surface. The 40th Anniversary documentary was made with the same love, enthuasism, spirit and energy that the Scoil Samraidh was set up with and it will forever be visited for reference, enjoyment and inspiration for future generations.
